FEEDBACK FRIDAY
=====
Dear Editors:
How about posting the actual video of Clayton Valli's story instead of a transcription? Nothing better than talking about ASL poetry in ASL.
David Kurs
John Lee Clark responds:
I agree that the ASL original is always better than its translation.
However, it was with a Deaf Life magazine profile in mind that Raymond taped an interview with Clayton Valli. The conversation turned into three hours of rich reflections and stories from Valli's life. Raymond translated twenty pages worth of material. Deaf Life, of course, could not use all of it, but Raymond saved the document for years until it was included in The Tactile Mind Quarterly's special issue, Clayton: A Tribute to Clayton Valli, in 2005, some eight years after the interview and two years after Valli's death. Raymond reports that the shoot was not lighted for documentary purposes, the footage is dark and difficult to see, and Valli's signing energy was uneven. After all, it was not a performance that they were shooting.
I wish someone had thought to produce a documentary-quality video of Valli narrating his memoirs in ASL. But I am thankful that Raymond did put together "Poetry Exploding from the Heart," which remains the best account, in either language, of Valli's life and work.

Dear Editors:
I enjoyed Melanie Bond's Chasing Vistas 7 journal. I'm originally from Duluth, Minnesota, and regret that she, and the family, were not able to enjoy the parts of the city that has scenic overtones, especially the Canal Park and the Duluth Skyline Drive. The Bong Bridge is essentially related to my husband's paternal grandmother's lineage. Life on the road has more hidden gems than one can ever imagine!

Dear Editors:
I have been enjoying Matt Daigle's comics. The "read my beak" gag was very
clever and humorous.
