THE HEARING-EAR DOG 1
Kendra Harness
[Comic]
For those who are Braille readers, a text description is provided below.
Not By Popular Demand! The Origin Story: The Hearing Ear Dog (TM). Our story opens . . . and the main character is introduced. A man stands in a doorway with a pet carrier at his feet. "I have a surprise for you! The family will love it." Mother says, "What is it?" as her baby sits at her feet. "It's something you've always needed, especially since you had the baby . . ." Father stands near Mother as she signs, "What? What?" The pet carrier door is opened to reveal a whimpering and shivering dog. The cat immediately leaps in a puff and hisses. The parents are impressed, "A hearing-ear dog! Great idea, huh?" (Note: Sound effects captioned for the hearing-impaired, sponsored by the local overpaid corporation.) Baby immediately gurgles and chokes the dog in its loving embrace. Cat is not impressed, snarling at the attention. The dog handler cheerfully comments while off-panel, "Bye, bye . . . I know you'll love him!" Father says, "Is that man crazy?" Mother says, "No . . . You know he's just hearing. . . we should keep the dog anyway--just look how much Melvin and Killer love him!" The hearing-ear dog is smothered and yanked on the ears by baby Melvin, thinking, "I wish I was dead." Killer the cat growls, tail a-thumping. "You will be!" Next! The hearing-ear dog's terrifying secret! Learn! His new name! See! The cat lure the H. E. D. into the microwave oven!
