HOW THE MOST FAMOUS DEAF-BLIND COUPLE GOT MARRIED
Richard McGann
Words: 501
[Anecdote]

Okay, let me give you story. I know Bob and Michelle Smithdas will laugh at me. I decided to break it.

During my time at Helen Keller National Center, Michelle was still a student. Michelle and I had something to each other and we chatted each other as friends. Yes, I did see bright sides of Michelle and I knew that something would come up.

One day, I was staying in Brooklyn, and an assistant residential supervisor came to me and showed me the note from his boss, and I asked him why me why me? He shrugged with both shoulders up. I said okay, I would go to keep up with this. I went with him and drove up to New York University, and we approached Michelle who was a college student in NYU. Then he and I helped her as we picked up her stuff and put in car.

When we went along, Michelle was sharing with me and I listened and I knew instantly. I chatted with her and followed everything what she had said. So that was how I started to build close friendship with Michelle, and few times I took transportation to make visits to keep up with Michelle. I did sit down and chatted with Michelle and got to know more to each other.

A day before my last day at HKNC, I approached Bob and sat down to share each other. We teased each other about datings. It was enjoyable to share. Then I asked Bob to do me a favor. Bob said yes. I said well, I made sure if he had my home address, and he said yes, he had it. I said please promise to look after Michelle. Bob said but it was impossible. I said why not. He said that it was HKNC policy, staff must not socialize students. I said well, I understood the fact, but I asked him which one he chose man-made law or God's law. He was silent. I said well, just remind me how Michelle would go on as I wanted to make sure she is all right as I care for her. Bob nodded his head as I watched his facial expression. I said please do me a favor and look after Michelle for me, in case if there was something he can reach me and I would be happy to come over to help. He nodded. Then that was it.

After second year of my employment at school for blind, I saw National Enquirer as it ran an article and I was so thrilled and excited and jumped with joy. There was an article about Bob and Michelle marrying each other. I showed the article to my colleagues and they were surprised and I told them stories about how that happened. I have lived with pride for both of them. Sometimes I feel like I was their cupid. Smile!

Let me warn you this. Yes, love blossom can happen at HKNC. Wink!
